Aprajit Mahajan is an Associate Professor in the Department of Agriculture and Resource Economics at University of California, Berkeley. He is also a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER), and an affiliate of J-PAL and CEGA. He is a Co-editor for the Journal of Development Economics and an Associate Editor for the Review of Economics and Statistics, the Journal of Business And Economic Statistics, and the World Bank Economic Review.
He is a development economist with a strong interest in econometric issues motivated by empirical work. His research in development has focused on understanding why and how households and firms in poor countries adopt technologies and on measuring their realized benefits in actual field settings. He has worked extensively in India and recent areas of work include agriculture, health, management, and taxation. In his econometric work, he has examined problems with mismeasured data and the implications of commonly used computational procedures for the statistical properties of the resultant estimators.
Aprajit received his Ph.D. in Economics from Princeton University. He taught at Stanford University and the University of California, Los Angeles before joining the University of California, Berkeley.
