Kusuma Satyanarayana

Kusuma Satyanarayana is an Associate Professor and the Head of the Department of Cultural Studies at English and Foreign Languages University (EFL-U) in Hyderabad. He earned his M.A. and M. Phil from the University of Hyderabad and subsequently earned his Ph.D. from EFL University.
Dr. Satyanarayana is involved in teaching and research in the new field of Dalit Studies. He has presented papers at the national and international levels and has published in the areas of Dalit studies, literary history, Indian writing English, and Critical Theory. He has co-edited the forthcoming book with Susie Tharu, No Alphabet in Sight: A Dossier of Dalit Writings from Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Volume 1, Penguin India.
Dr. Satyanarayana worked in the student movement from 1990-1994 and also as State Secretary of Kula Nirmoolana Porata Samiti (a forum for caste annihilation) of Andhra Pradesh for ten years and editor of a Telugu little magazine of the organization "Kulanirmoolana" during that period.
We are pleased that Dr. Satyanarayana will be in residence at Penn as a Visiting Scholar at the Center for the Advanced Study of India from July through August 2010.
