CASI congratulates Ramanan Raghavendran on being named Chair of the Penn Board of Trustees!

A member of CASI's International Advisory Board since 2006, Ramanan—a Penn alumnus and Managing Partner & Co-founder of Amasia—provided the seed support that launched CASI Student Programs in 2007, reflecting his deep commitment to enhancing Penn’s undergraduate education and experiential learning opportunities in India.

More recently, as an advocate for Penn research, Ramanan took part in the 2020-21 virtual Penn in India Faculty Speaker Series, moderating CASI Director Tariq Thachil's inaugural public presentation for Penn, a discussion on "Urban Migrants in India," as well as a discussion on "The Party System in India," with Prof. Thachil, featuring UPIASI Academic Director & Chief Executive, E. Sridharan.

CASI Welcomes Co-Sponsored Spring 2024 SAC Visiting Scholar, Dr. Richard Eaton

Dr. Richard Eaton (Professor of History, University of Arizona), one of the most distinguished historians of South Asia today, joins the South Asia Center as a Spring 2024 Visiting Scholar. His research primarily focuses on the social and cultural history of pre-modern India (1000-1800) and he teaches undergraduate courses on World History and graduate courses on Comparative History. His visit is co-sponsored by CASI and Penn's Department of History.

Nikhil Anand (CASI Associate Faculty Director) published "Atal Setu is Bad for Mumbai — its People and Ecology" in the January 18, 2024 issue of The Indian Express.
