Deepta Sateesh

Deepta Sateesh is an ecological designer concerned with the environment and communities, and works on complex design projects to catalyze socio-ecological change in contentious landscapes. She is Director of the Design+Environment+Law Laboratory at Srishti Institute of Art, Design and Technology, a collaborative space where designers, lawyers, scientists, scholars, and activists work together to challenge existing legal, environmental, social, economic, and cultural frameworks toward building sychronous engagements in places.

In the past, Deepta has worked on large-scale planning projects in China, Korea, Vietnam, and Colombia, including the master plan for the Beijing Olympics 2008 site and the proposed Bogota Metro Project; building her knowledge, experience, and strengths in environmental leadership, strategy, and ecological planning. Deepta is Dean of the School of New Humanities & Design and holds a Bachelor of Architecture (Manipal Institute of Technology, 1998) and a Master of City Planning (University of Pennsylvania, 2000). Her doctoral research is in art and design, framed to challenge existing constructs that have created conflicts in the Western Ghats, India, while offering a new way forward.
