In this issue of India in Transition, Rob Jenkins, Professor of Political Science, Hunter College and The Graduate Center, CUNY, argues that the country's decade-old employment-guarantee legislation has provided not just critical income support for some of rural India's most vulnerable people, but also the political capacity to assert their dignity, advance their interests, and defend their rights.

CASI Student Programs
Travel Funds for Research Applications are due on March 14, 2016
CASI provides up to $3,000 to undergraduate winners and up to $3,500 to graduate student winners to use towards international roundtrip economy fare and India in-country travel related expenses. We encourage applications from both Penn undergraduates (preferably juniors writing a thesis related to contemporary India) and graduate students focused on contemporary India or India in a comparative context.
