A Quarter Century of India's Transformations: CASI’s 25th Anniversary Symposium [1]

Thursday, October 12, 2017 - 02:00
Michael A. Fitts Auditorium, Golkin Hall University of Pennsylvania Law School 3501 Sansom Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104

Since its founding in 1992 within the School of Arts & Sciences (SAS) by Professor Francine Frankel, Professor Emerita of Political Science and South Asian Regional Studies at Penn, CASI has continued to uphold Penn’s global reputation as a leading U.S. institution of research in South Asian studies and scholarship on India. Recognized as a national resource and social science center, CASI fulfills Penn’s mission of providing students a durable foundation for critical and creative thinking by engaging in policy-relevant research focused on the challenges facing contemporary India.

CASI offers multiple opportunities to nurture a new generation of scholars and students—both graduate and undergraduate—through interactions with Visiting Scholars and opportunities to work and conduct research at the center and in India. Additionally, it acts as a public forum on contemporary India by hosting seminars, workshops, and conferences, and is home to the scholarly publication, India in Transition, an online bi-weekly with a wide international readership.

The event is hosted by Professor Devesh Kapur, [2] Director, CASI, Professor of Political Science, and the Madan Lal Sobti Professor of the Study of Contemporary India at Penn.

Symposium: 2:00-6:30 p.m. at the Michael A. Fitts Auditorium, Golkin Hall, Penn Law
Reception: 6:30-7:30 p.m. in The Haaga Lounge, Golkin Hall

A Quarter Century of India's Transformations: CASI’s 25th Anniversary Symposium is made possible through the generous support of the CASI International Advisory Board and The Nand & Jeet Khemka Foundation.
