Can Talent Abroad Help Reform Institutions at Home? Towards a New Diaspora Agenda in Development [1]

[2]

This comparative project published in September 2013 by the Migration Policy Institute is based on empirical work in India, Argentina, Mexico, and Russia, South Korea, Ireland, and the United Kingdom. The book includes sections on talent abroad and institutional dynamics at home, the role of diasporas in the global search for local solutions, expatriate talent and transformation of innovation systems at home, and implications for institutional development and design of diaspora initiatives.

Funded by a multi-year grant from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, the book project put forth the hypothesis that the increased salience of diaspora networks to home economies goes beyond direct economic impacts alone.
